Diamond Jubilee events

Official engagements to mark the Diamond Jubilee that are hosted by the Governor-General or supported by the Government will be listed on this page as they are announced.  Engagements involving the visit of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall later in November 2012 will also be listed here.  If you have a community event that you would like to be listed here, please email info@govthouse.govt.nz with information about your event (please include contact details).  Government House reserves the right to decide which events to list.

7 February:

The Prime Minister, Rt Hon John Key, moved a motion in the House of Representatives congratulating the Queen on her Diamond Jubilee.

27 February:

The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae, host a Diamond Jubilee luncheon in honour of the visit of the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, and His Excellency Mr Michael Bryce, Government House Auckland

3 March:

The Auckland Art Gallery exhibition, Degas to Dali, opens.  The exhibition, featuring works from the National Galleries of Scotland, is supported by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  

11 March:

A service to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee will be held at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, Auckland at 5pm to coincide with Commonwealth Day. For more information, contact Gill Blackler on 09 303 9500 or events@holy-trinity.org.nz

4 June:

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacons are lit throughout the world, with Blenheim being one of the first in the world. 

6 June:

The Northern Club, Auckland, holds a reception to mark the Diamond Jubilee. 

26 June:

Their Excellencies host the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration dinner, Government House Auckland

30 June:

Their Excellencies host the Diamond Jubilee Ball for the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of New Zealand, Government House Wellington.

28 July:

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Diamond Jubilee Ball, Auckland. 

18 August:

The 3 Auckland (Countess of Ranfurly's Own) and North Battalion Group (3 Auckland North) Diamond Jubilee Ball, Auckland War Memorial Museum.

18 September:

Their Excellencies host a Diamond Jubilee concert and reception at Government House in association with the Royal Overseas League (New Zealand).  For more information, contact Lyn Milne: royalo-s@xtra.co.nz

13 - 21 October:

Watercolour New Zealand Diamond Jubilee ‘Splash’ Exhibition, opens at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Queen's Wharf, Wellington.  For more information, visit the WNZ website by clicking here

November:

New Zealand welcomes the Diamond Jubilee visit of HRH Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
