As Patron of the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association, the Governor-General, The Hon Anand Satyanand, hosted the inaugural New Zealand Down Syndrome Association T4T event at Government House Auckland on 20 March 2007. The event also commemorated World Down Syndrome Day, held the following day. 21 March was chosen as it signifies the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication of the 21st chromosome.
