Peter Harris

Peter Harris, of Huntly, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to local body affairs and rugby.  Mr Harris has been the Mayor of Waikato District Council for seven years and was previously a councillor for some 10 years, where he was involved in many significant council initiatives.  He has also been involved in rugby in Huntly since 1960.  He was a member of the Lower Waikato Representative Rugby Team and was a senior referee for many years.  He was President of the Waikato Rugby Union's Referees' Association and was President of the Huntly Rugby Union Club.  Mr Harris also coached the senior team and was the captain of the local grazier's team.
