The Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand and Lady Susan Satyanand will arrive in Canterbury in time for Waitangi Day where they will begin their five day regional visit. The visit includes going to meet various community groups, schools, and businesses as well as presenting Royal Humane Society bravery awards at a ceremony on Tuesday 9 February.
The visit will begin on Waitangi Day where Sir Anand and Lady Susan will be welcomed on to Ōnuku Marae at Akaroa. This is the first time Sir Anand has given a Waitangi Day address in a location other than Government House Auckland or Wellington. The Governor-General’s attendance at Ōnuku Marae recognises that the Treaty was signed at many different times and places in the months following 6 February 1840.

9.00am: Sir Anand and Lady Susan attend Ngāi Tahu Waitangi Day Celebrations at Ōnuku Marae, Akaroa, where the Governor-General will give his Waitangi Day address.

Sunday 7 February 2010:
11.30am: Sir Anand and Lady Susan attend the Southern Ocean Athletes Surf Competition at South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club, Christchurch. Sir Anand will make an address and present the awards.

7.00pm: Sir Anand and Lady Susan attend a dinner hosted by the Mayor of Christchurch, Bob Parker, at the Curator’s House Restaurant.
