Please be advised that the Governor-General of New Zealand, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, will visit Timaru and Southland from Saturday 6 October to Thursday 11 October.

Please be advised that the Governor-General of New Zealand, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, will visit Timaru and Southland from Saturday 6 October to Thursday 11 October.  Some of the events they will be attending that may be of media interest include:

Saturday 6 October 2007

4.30pm: Pleasant Point Railway Trip, Timaru.

Sunday 7 October 2007

12.30pm: The Governor-General officiates at an Order of St John Investiture Ceremony, Sacred Heart Basilica, Timaru.  (The Governor-General is the Orders' Prior in New Zealand).

Monday 8 October 2007

9am: Boat trip to Doubtful Sound, departing from Real Journeys Office at Te Anau.  Includes tour of Manapouri Power Station.

Tuesday 9 October 2007

8.30am: Visit Downer EDI Works Te Anau Office for briefing on Transit New Zealand Milford Rd Avalanche Programme.

11am: Meet with the staff and students of Fiordland College, Te Anau.

12.30pm: Visit Burwood Bush to examine the Takahe breeding programme.

Wednesday 10 October 2007

11.15am Meet with the staff and students of Halfmoon Bay Primary School, Stewart Island and open the new administration block.

12.15am Depart Stewart Island for tour of Ulva Island.

Thursday 11 October 2007

9.15am: Meet with the staff and students of New River School, Invercargill.

10.45am: Visit the Tiwai Aluminium Smelter, Bluff, for a tour of the facilities.

12.15pm:  Visit Te Rau Aroha Marae, Bluff for a tour of the marae.

3.15pm: Visit Southern Institute of Technology, Invercargill.
