The Governor-General of New Zealand, the Honourable Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, will visit Dunedin tomorrow (29 February).
In the morning, the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand will visit John McGlashan College and the Governor-General will officially open the Schools' new Edgar Learning Centre at 10.30am. The $6.5 million facility—the result of considerable fundraising contains, over three floors, a new library, a drama workspace, teachers 'workrooms, a computer laboratory and seminar rooms and classrooms equipped with the latest multimedia equipment. Media are welcome to attend the opening and for more information, contact Principal Michael Corkery on 03 4676620 or 027 227 2301. The Governor-Generals' speech will be available online soon after he speaks at www.gg.govt.nz
Around midday, the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand will have lunch with members of the University Club. The Hon Anand Satyanand will also address the Club, continuing a tradition whereby every Governor-General since Viscount Jellicoe has spoken to the Club since it was established in 1923. While the Governor-Generals' speech will be available online soon after he speaks at www.gg.govt.nz the event is not open to the media.
At 6pm, the Governor-General will present the latest round of grants from the Dr Marjorie Barlcay Charitable Trust at the Otago Museum. The trustees have since 1989 distributed more than $3 million to nine charities designated in Dr Barclays' will. Media are welcome to attend the presentation. The Governor-Generals' speech will be available online soon after he speaks at www.gg.govt.nz
