The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, and Lady Janine Mateparae, hosted six investiture ceremonies at Government House Wellington on Tuesday 1 May (10am and 2.30pm), Wednesday 2 May (10am), Thursday 3 May (10am and 2.30pm), and Friday 4 May (10am).
To mark ANZAC Day 2012 the Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, attended commemorative services in Christchurch and Wellington. On the evening of 24 April 2012, he presented the 2012 ANZAC of the Year Award to the Student Volunteer Army at Canterbury University. On 25 April, he attended the Dawn Service at Cranmer Square in Christchurch and the National Commemorative Service at the National War Memorial in Wellington before hosting an ANZAC Day luncheon at Government House in Wellington for a group of veterans, serving military personnel, and youth cadets.

The collection of carved panels that feature in the Taupaepae, or main entrance hall, of Government House in Wellington are believed to be unique among Commonwealth Government Houses. Government House in Wellington is a large, two-storey house, built mostly of wood, with attics, a grand staircase, a ballroom, dozens of other large and small rooms, very long corridors and a flag tower. It is the official residence of the Governor-General, but it also contains offices, and is used frequently for receptions of many kinds. This gallery contains photographs of the grounds and various rooms within the House.
Government House Auckland is much smaller than Government House Wellington, having been originally built as a family home. Sir Frank and Lady Mappin bought the property in 1921 and spent the next 45 years, after building the residence, developing and landscaping the grounds. They gifted it to the Queen to be the Governor-General's official residence in Auckland in 1962.
