Biography of Susan Satyanand

Lady Susan Satyanand 

Susan Sharpe was born in Sydney in 1947.  As her father was a New Zealander, her family moved to Auckland in 1955 and she attended Epsom Girls' Grammar School.

Through her work as a legal executive, she met Anand Satyanand and they were married in Auckland in 1970  Her interest in children led her to complete a Diploma in Education as a mature student after which she taught for a time in an Intermediate School.

Susan was active in the Auckland Plunket Society and local kindergarten committees.  After moving to Wellington, she has voluntarily worked in the Citizens' Advice Bureau and the Benefit Rights Centre as well as being Treasurer for UNICEF Ladies Auxiliary, and Secretary of the Amity Club.

While supporting the Governor-General, Susan is basing her workload around her chosen themes of children, positive outcomes for the environment and supporting volunteerism.

She enjoys gardening, botany, playing bridge, walking and reading.  Sir Anand and Lady Susan Satyanand have three adult children and two grandchildren who were both born in early 2009.
