Mrs Shirley May, of Kaikohe, QSM for services to music and the community

Mrs May is voluntary organiser of the Bay of Islands Country Rock Festival and the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival, which attract more than 2,000 visitors and feature hundreds of musicians across multiple venues. She organises the Kawakawa Vintage Railway Concerts and is Chairperson of the Little Tennessee Country Music Club. She was a committee member of Pakaraka School and helped organise the school’s 75th and 100th anniversary events. She is a committee member and former Chairperson of the Pakaraka Hall. Mrs May organises an annual neighbourhood watch get-together and has self-published a cake recipe book.
