The Governor-General

Her Excellency The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy was sworn in as the 21st Governor-General of New Zealand on 28 September 2016. Follow her blog and read her speeches.

In March 2016,Queen Elizabeth II approved the appointment of Dame Patsy Reddy as the next Governor-General of New Zealand, for a five-year term starting on 28 September 2016.

Dame Patsy's previous career was in law, business, and the public sector. She is the third woman to be appointed to the position of Governor-General after Dame Catherine Tizard and Dame Silvia Cartwright.

Dame Patsy is married to the former New Zealand Judicial Conduct Commissioner, Sir David Gascoigne.
