The late Mr Trevor Taurima, of Hastings, MNZM, for services to Māori, sport and conservation
Mr Trevor Taurima was a key driver of Poutiri Ao ō Tāne, an 8,800 hectare forest restoration project on the Maungaharuru Range. He was instrumental in securing the return of kākā, kākāriki, tīti, kōrure and pātake to the area. He visited iwi and hapū across New Zealand and promoted the project across multiple forums. He then became involved with the ‘Cape to City’ restoration project, developing a plan to promote engagement in the project by tangata whenua. Mr Taurima was a cultural advisor to the Department of Conservation, helped found the Ngā Hau E Whā Māori Squash Association, and co-founded Heretaunga Ararau O Ngāti Kahungunu Waka Ama Roopu.
