Mrs Joy Oakly, of Nelson, QSM for services to women and education
Joy Oakly was Captain of the Third Nelson Company of Girls Brigade Company and President of the Nelson West Rotoract. She has held several roles on the Executive Committee of Soroptimist International Nelson, including as President from 1989 to 1991 and 2010 to 2012. She secured funding from the Ministry of Education for a Young Parents’ School to provide learning assistance with NCEA. She chairs the Nelson Soroptimist Education Trust. She has supported anti-violence and anti-bullying campaigns in schools. She has been involved with several family violence awareness events. Mrs Oakly works as a scientist at the Nelson Cawthron Institute and is involved in the Institute’s Annual School Science Fair.
