Professor Emerita Nicola Peart, of Dunedin, ONZM for services to the law
Professor Emerita Nicola Peart has contributed to the Faculty of Law at the University of Otago since 1987, teaching more than 6,000 students property law and supervising Masters and Doctoral students. She has presented at 70 conferences of lawyers. Her work has been widely cited by the judiciary, and has contributed to form judgements. She has been a member of expert panels for the Law Commission, Relationship Property and Succession. She advised the Minister of Justice on the establishment of the Trusts Act. She convened the New Zealand Law Society’s Relationship Property Standing Committee and had an active role with the Otago Women Lawyers Society’s annual Ethel Benjamin Lecture. Professor Peart is an advisor and mentor to the Student Debating Society and has contributed to leadership development programmes.
