Professor Christine Stephens, of Waikanae, ONZM, for services to health psychology and seniors
Professor Christine Stephens is co-lead with Professor Fiona Alpass of the Health and Ageing Research Team (HART) at Massey University, an interdisciplinary research group running the New Zealand Longitudinal Study of Ageing.
Her work has highlighted the importance of social and physical environments to health and provided opportunities for older adults to voice their perspectives on ageing well.
She co-authored “Healthy ageing: A capability approach to inclusive policy and practice” and authored “Health promotion: A psychological approach”.
She was a founding member, Treasurer and Chair of the International Society of Critical Health Psychology and helped to develop Massey University’s flagship health psychology programme.
She contributes to the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics and the New Zealand Association of Gerontology. Professor Stephens serves on the Board of Age Concern Kāpiti.
