Robert Morrison
Dr Robert Morrison, of Cambridge, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit,for services to medicine and the community. Dr Morrison was a General Practitioner in Gisborne for 40 years and has offered his medical services to a range of organisations in the area. He developed a knowledge base of ophthalmology to complement his general practice at a time when there were no ophthalmologists in Gisborne. His early intervention helped many patients keep their sight. He has been honorary doctor of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union and medical officer of Gisborne’s Waikanae Surf Lifesaving Club. He was responsible for the establishment of the Tairawhiti Sub-Faculty of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, of which he is a Fellow.
