Nancy Merriman
Nancy Merriman, of Tauranga, received the Queen's Service Medal, for services to the community. Mrs Merriman was the first woman to be elected to the Tauranga County Council in 1974 and was later elected to the Bay of Plenty Regional Council 1989 where she chaired the Regulatory and Monitoring committee for three years. She established the Katikati Heritage Museum with her husband in 1999 and has continued to expand its collection. She served nine years as deputy Chair of the Tauranga Museum Board and was a foundation trustee of the Athenree Homestead Trust. She helped established the Katikati Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Katikati Toastmistress Club, the Tauranga Women’s Refuge and the first Tauranga Family Planning Clinic. Since 2005 she has chaired the Katikati Community Health Trust, which she helped establish in 1992.
