Dr David Mossman, Havelock North, QSM, for services to veterinary science
Dr David Mossman has worked to advance pastoral farming and increase productivity levels in herd management for the beef industry and farming in general on the East Coast for more than 40 years. He researched and collected data on the performance of beef herds from 1970 to 1995, and highlighted several issues, including the unprofitability of herds due to prolonged calving and its cumulative effect. This research led to much greater beef production and efficiency. He has also worked to eradicate Bovine TB and through refined measures prevent its spread. Dr Mossman was a forerunner in terms of theory and practicality on what has become accepted practice. He awards include Australian College of Veterinary Scientists prize in 1977, and the Coopers New Zealand Farm Management Award in 1984.
