Hugh Treadwell, Taupo, QSM, for services to the community
Mr Hugh Treadwell has had a long association with the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. He was appointed to the executive of the Royal Agricultural Society in 1973 and served as President from 1987 to 1990 before leaving the executive in 1992. Through the Society he has been convenor of the AC Cameron Memorial Awards and the Golden Fleece Award. He has written and published an 80-year history of the Royal Agricultural Society. He is still an active member of the Taihape A&P Association and has compiled a history for the association’s 2011 centennial. He was a board member of the Ruanui Charitable Rest Home for 14 years, including three as Chair, and helped raise over a million dollars to leave the trust debt free upon his retirement. Since he retired to Taupo, Mr Treadwell has been a trustee of the Lake Taupo Hospice Trust and, through his involvement with the fundraising committee, has helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the organisation. Mr Treadwell is a Justice of the Peace.
