Mrs Margaret (Meg) Wilson, QSM, Putaruru
For services to animal welfare. Mrs Meg Wilson was been a member of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for more than 25 years. She was Chair for 18 years and led the amalgamation of the Putaruru and Tokoroa branches to form the South Waikato SPCA. She was involved in the organisation at all levels, including caring for the animals at the shelter, fundraising and increasing public awareness of animal needs. She was a central instigator of the opening of two successful charity shops, one in Putaruru, and one in Tokoroa. More than $43,000 raised through the charity shops provided access to treatment for animals whose owners cannot afford it.
