Ms Piatarihi Callaghan, MNZM, Te Puke
For services to Māori. Ms Piatarihi Callaghan is the Chief Negotiator for the Tapuika Iwi Authority and has been leading Treaty negotiations with the Crown since 2008. Under her direction and leadership Tapuika, together with Ngāti Rangiwewehi and Ngāti Rangiteaorere, signed the joint Terms of Negotiation with the Crown in 2009, and an Agreement in Principle with the Crown was signed in 2011. She is the manager of Ngā Kakano Foundation, established in 1986 by tāngata whenua to provide health and social services to whānau living in the Te Puke district. The Foundation is one of the largest providers of smoking cessation services to Māori and Pacific peoples, and was awarded the Best Management Systems Award by the Poutiri Trust in 2008.
