Martin Snedden, Wellington, CNZM, for services to sporting administration
Mr Martin Snedden is the Chief Executive of Rugby World Cup 2011 and is credited with administering one of the most successful international sporting tournaments ever held in New Zealand. He has developed a reputation as one of the most capable sporting administrators in the world. The tournament reached its ticket revenue target, selling more than 87% of all available tickets. Visitor numbers exceeded expectations, with more than 100,000 tourists coming to New Zealand expressly for the tournament. International television viewing numbers also exceeded expectations despite time zone differences. Mr Snedden is a former member of the New Zealand Cricket Team, playing 25 tests between 1980 and 1990. He was Chief Executive Officer of New Zealand Cricket from 2001 to 2007.
