Ian MacRae, ONZM, Napier.
For services to rugby. Mr Ian MacRae has been a rugby player, coach, and administrator at regional, national, and international levels over a period of 50 years. He played 85 games for Hawke’s Bay, and was the Vice Captain of the All Blacks in 1967, playing for them from 1963 to 1970. He is the Vice President of the New Zealand Rugby Union. He has been a member of the Saracens Rugby Club for more than 40 years, including as its Chair, and is now a Life Member of this club, as well as of Napier Old Boys Marist, and the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union. He was included in a team of All Black Living Legends in 2000. He was appointed to the Super 12 Judiciary Panel from 1996 to 1998. He was involved with the amalgamation of the former Napier Marist and Napier High School Old Boys Rugby Clubs in 1990. He has served on the Napier City Council Hillary Commission Grants Allocation Committee. Mr MacRae received the Napier City Council Citizens Civic Award in 2009 and was named by the Minister of Conservation as one of 17 national Living Legends for a tree-planting project to coincide with the Rugby World Cup.
