Sue Bree, Opua, MNZM, for services to midwifery
Ms Sue Bree has served as a midwife in the Northland community for some 30 years, providing home and hospital birthing services. She was one of the first self-employed midwives in Northland, with clients drawn from largely rural, unemployed or socially disadvantaged sectors of the community. She has served the region in a number of capacities, as the midwifery member of maternity-related committees, and was chairperson of the Northland region of the New Zealand College of Midwives, which was pivotal in making the Northland midwives a cohesive group. She has been a midwife member of the New Zealand Nursing Council, has served three terms as president of the New Zealand College of Midwives and was an inaugural member of the Midwifery Council of New Zealand. Ms Bree is currently an Asia-Pacific representative to the International Confederation of Midwives. In 2008 she was made a New Zealand College of Midwives Elder.
