Brian Diver, Tauranga, QSM, for services to youth sport
Mr Brian Diver instigated the New Zealand Community Trust AIMS Games in Tauranga in 2004 and has overseen and directed its immense growth as a nationwide elite sporting event and domestic tourism attraction. As President of the AIMS Games, Mr Diver has seen the event receive the Westpac Tourism Award in 2010 and expand to encompass more than 4,600 competitors from 121 schools competing in 15 sporting codes. In 2012 the games are set to expand internationally with the inclusion of Australian teams. He has further devoted himself to the wellbeing of emerging adolescents, as a trustee for the Te Aranui Youth at Risk Trust and the Ngamuwahine Trust. Tauranga Intermediate School, of which Mr Diver is Principal, was named the Goodman Fielder Large Primary/Intermediate School of the Year in 2001. As a trustee from the inception of the Bay Health Foundation, Mr Diver as a member of a team spearheaded the establishment of a cancer centre at Tauranga Hospital and seeded a second cancer centre at Whakatane Hospital.
