Eruera Wikiriwhi
The late Eruera Wikiriwhi, of Tokoroa, received the Queen’s Service Medal for services to Māori. Mr Wikiriwhi was the surviving foundation trustee of the Tutukau East Z Trust and has contributed more than 28 years, 20 of them as Chair, in a voluntary capacity. He was a koeke, or prominent leader, of Tuhourangi, Ngāti Whaoa, and Ngāti Taraiakihi of Tuwharetoa. He holds an important role as one of the upholders of the whakapapa of his people, their land and waterways. He was also a trustee of the Waihaha Māori Lands Trust. He has worked with various agencies to negotiate the return of ngā tāonga tuku iho (treasured possessions). He was committed to the return of ownership of Orakei Korako back to Māori and worked for many years to achieve this. Mr Wikiriwhi’s medal was received by his grandson Cody Wickliffe.
