Sir Frederick Allen, of Whangaparaoa
Sir Frederick Allen received the Insignia of a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to rugby. Sir Frederick was coach of the All Blacks for 14 tests in the 1960s, all of which the team won, making him the only undefeated coach in All Black history. He has been one of the dominant figures in New Zealand rugby as a player, captain, coach, selector, administrator and role model for more than 60 years. He represented New Zealand as an All Black for 28 matches, as a selector from 1957 to 1963, and as coach from 1966 to 1968. Since being made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1991, he has continued to contribute as an administrator and international ambassador for rugby. He is Patron of the Auckland Rugby Football Union, has been inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame, and his name appears twice in the New Zealand Sporting Hall of Fame, the only person to hold this distinction. Sir Frederick supports community activities in a voluntary capacity, in particular the Manly Sailing Club, which now provides a centre for family and youth sailing on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, and the Hibiscus Coast Schools' Waterwise Society, promoting water safety in schools.
