Thomas Doocey
Thomas Doocey, of Christchurch, received the Insignia of a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for services to rugby. Mr Doocey has made a significant contribution to national and international rugby refereeing. He has refereed more than 90 first-class and international matches and in 1983 he became the first New Zealander to referee an international first-class match in the Five Nations Rugby Championship. After his retirement in 1990, he became involved in the administration of refereeing. He is a Life Member of the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association, having served as an executive member from 1987 to 2000, and Chair from 1991 to 2000. He was a member of the Referees Appointment Group from 1991 to 2004, the New Zealand Representative on the World Cup Rugby Referees Appointment Board, and was its Chairperson in 1995.
