Bruce Bird
Inspector Bruce Bird, of Manukau, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the New Zealand Police. Inspector Bird has served in the Wellington, Auckland City and Counties Manukau Police Districts. In 2004 he was appointed Counties Manukau Area Commander and since then he has implemented a wide range of changes that have considerably improved policing. He has been energetically committed to creating long-term solutions to issues such as gang violence, family violence, alcohol-related disorderly behaviour, and community safety. In 2008 Mr Bird was seconded to be the Security Liaison Officer to the New Zealand team at the Beijing Olympic Games. For the last 12 years he also has coached at the Pakuranga Rugby Club and for the last three he has been head coach of the club’s under 21 team.
