Maarten Kleintjes
Maarten Kleintjes, of Wellington, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the New Zealand Police. Mr Kleintjes became Officer in Charge of the National Tape Laboratory after joining the New Zealand Police in 1984. Since then he has made a significant contribution to the Police’s electronic forensic capability, moving it from a one-man audio enhancement unit to a world-leading three-laboratory network. He developed and implemented the first New Zealand Police Electronic Crime Strategy in 2007 to combat e-crime through greater involvement with government agencies in New Zealand and overseas. In 2009, Mr Kleintjes was part of the successful implementation of the Environment for Virtual Evidence, allowing frontline Police to evaluate a virtual representation of seized electronic devices from their desktops, thus maintaining forensic integrity. Between 1991 and 2008, Mr Kleintjes also volunteered his technical expertise to his local Wellington primary school.
