Ataraita Ngatai QSM and Enoka Ngatai QSM, of Tauranga
For services to Māori. Mr and Mrs Ngatai were involved in setting up the Turirangi Te Kani Scholarship for tertiary students. Six students per year receive the scholarship, which is run through the Tauranga Moana Māori Trust. Mr Ngatai was the Chair of the Tauranga Moana Māori Trust Board for 12 years and was the foundation Chair of the Te Awanio Hauora on Matakana Island for 15 years. Mrs Ngatai helped establish Te Matahauariki o Tauranga Moana, a Māori Education organisation dedicated to improving the educational achievement of Māori students from early childhood to tertiary levels. She is the Chair of Te Awanui Hauora, which operates on Matakana Island. Mr and Mrs Ngatai have also contributed to the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, the University of Waikato and Tauranga Boys’ College.
