War Amps National Headquarters visit
As a part of the first State Visit by a New Zealand Governor-General to Canada, the Hon Anand Satyanand and Mrs Susan Satyanand visited the War Amps National Headquarters on 1 May 2008. Founded by national charter in 1920 as The Amputations Association to assist veterans of the First World War who had lost limbs in the conflict, the War Amps has expanded its programmes to assist all Canadians who have had limbs amputated. Created in 1975, the CHild AMPutee (CHAMP) Programme is built on the Winner’s Circle philosophy that encourages child amputees (Champs) to accept their amputations and develop a positive approach to challenges. The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand are Yousif Kadoura (12). For more information about the CHAMP programme visit: www.waramps.ca
