Josephine Karanga MNZM
Josephine Karanga, of Whakatane, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori. Mrs Karanga is a member of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board Māori Health Rūnunga and was a board member of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa from 2001 to 2007. She was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa, an indigenous education and training organisation. She is the Whakatōhea representative on the Te Ao Hou Primary Health Organisation and Vice Chair of the Whakatōhea Māori Trust Board. She is a trustee of the Whakatōhea Fisheries Trust and a trustee of Tūhoe Hauora, the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty mental health and addictions provider.
