Douglas Clemens, Rotorua, QSM
For services to the community. Mr Clemens has been involved with the preservation of historical buildings in Rotorua for almost 20 years. He was a founding member, and has been President, of the Rotorua Heritage and Civic Trust since its inception in 1992. He has worked to save the Te Runanga tearooms at Government Gardens, now a successful café and wedding venue, which was facing demolition. He initiated and was instrumental in the Rotorua Bath House Project. The project, which is restoring the Historic Places Trust category 1 Tudor style building to its original 1908 specifications, is due to be completed in August 2011. Mr Clemens headed a team that raised $22 million to undertake the project. He is a past President of the Rotary Club of Rotorua.
