For services to conservation. Mr Jenks is recognised as a leading dune ecologist who develops low cost, community-based, successful techniques to maximise dune restoration. He was instrumental in the formation of the Dune Restoration Trust and has been responsible for organising the planting of sand binding plants on the Bay of Plenty dunes, and now also further afield. He was the co-author of a report, ‘Dunes and the Effects of Climate Change’, for the Ministry for the Environment in 2003, and both editions of ‘Life’s a Beach’ – a secondary school kit produced by Environment Bay of Plenty. He has published numerous other publications emphasising the ease, low cost and reliability of this innovative and protective technique.
