John Blundell, of Papakura
John Blundell received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Mr Blundell, known as Kawakawa Bay’s 'beach cleaner extraordinaire', has been collecting rubbish dumped along the coastline for more than five years. He has also contributed to the Clevedon community in a number of ways, especially through his membership of the Clevedon Hall Committee. As a member of the Clevedon School Committee, he helped obtain equipment for the school, moving the disestablished old North Road School building to Clevedon School to serve as a library. Mr Blundell was a member of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the Clevedon District Centenary Committee, Clevedon Federated Farmers, and the Clevedon Cruising Club, where he was involved in the reconstruction of the wharves, slipways and associated facilities.
