James Campbell, Auckland, MNZM
For services to surf life saving. Mr Campbell has been closely involved in surf life saving and rugby league since the 1940s. In the 1980s he initiated Surf Life Saving New Zealand's nationwide youth and beach education programme, which has taught safety skills to thousands of young New Zealanders. He was Surf Life Saving’s National President from 2007 to mid-2010. In rugby league he has coached and refereed at provincial level, and managed the national team from 1982 to 1985. Mr Campbell is a life member of both Surf Life Saving New Zealand and the New Zealand Rugby League.
