Michael Mohi
Michael Mohi, of Waipukurau received the Queen’s Service Medal for services to conservation, on 2 September 2008. He has been promoting the protection and preservation of indigenous biodiversity on Maori land for more than 15 years, since he was appointed the executive officer of the Nga Whenua Rahui Committee in 1991. He has been responsible for the protection of 250,000ha of Maori land through the Nga Whenua Rahui Programme of the Department of Conservation and has been the vital link between the iwi and the department.
