For services to music and the community. Mrs Clifford is highly regarded in the Hawke’s Bay community and nationally for her innovative and enthusiastic approach to music and her commitment to the community. She is the Chair of Chamber Music New Zealand and is also the Chairperson of its Hawke’s Bay Branch, an organisation she has been involved with since 1957. She is Chair of the advisory committee to the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Eastern Institute of Technology and has been a board member of Creative Hawke's Bay since its formation in 2002. Since 1985 she has been a committee member of the Hawke’s Bay Society for Music Education and is the President of the Napier Girls' High School Old Girls' Association. A former Head of Music at Napier Girls' High School, she has produced and been musical director of numerous shows, and mentoring young people to pursue their musical interests. Mrs Clifford received the Queen's Service Medal in 1990.
