Ian Munro, Auckland, QSM
For services to the community. Mr Munro is one of the longest-serving blood donors in New Zealand, having donated blood four times a year from 1958 to 2004. He was Chair of the Blood Donor Advisory Board for six years from 1992 to 1997. He has worked as a voluntary donor recruiter, speaking at more than 80 secondary schools and service clubs annually. He was a board member of Hato Petera College for six years in the 1990s and was a member of the North Shore Housing Trust from 1997 to 2005, including four years as Chair. He has been a member of the North Shore Hospice Trust since 2001, but has recently retired. His experience in the real estate and property management industries meant that he played a significant role in overseeing the construction of a new 14 bed inpatient unit at the Hospice where he is also a volunteer gardener. Mr Munro also serves the community as a Justice of the Peace.
