Sitaleki Finau
Professor Sitaleki Finau, of Greenlane, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Pacific Islands community health. Professor Finau has contributed to Pacific Island health in New Zealand for many years. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the Tongan Health Society. He developed an ethnic specific model of health care and established the Langimalie Clinic in Auckland. He instituted Hepatitis B screening programmes which have targeted Pacific people. He helped re-establish the New Zealand Tongan Nurses Association, and is a founding member of the New Zealand Pacifica Medical Association. He was instrumental in the development of the Massey University Pacific Strategy. Professor Finau has been a member of the Pacific Health Research Council, the Aotearoa Tongan Education Association and the Centre of Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland.
