Richard Nanson, Wellington, MNZM
For services to horticulture. Mr Nanson was employed by the Wellington City Council's Parks and Recreation section from 1967 to 1992 and since then has continued his involvement in horticulture. He has initiated and planned several landscape works, including the development of the Education and Environment Centre at the Botanic Gardens, and the retention of the Truby King home and gardens. He developed gardens at Mt Crawford Prison, where he taught inmates the basics of growing vegetables. He established the Friends of the Wellington Botanic Garden in 1980. He has been a trustee of the Heritage Park Rhododendron Garden since 2007, and serves as Chairman of the Garden Committee. He was made a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture in 1970.
