Laly Haddon
Laly Haddon, of Wellsford, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to conservation. Mr Haddon was a founding member of the first marine reserve in New Zealand and served on the committee until it was disbanded in 1990. He has served on the Auckland Conservation Board for a number of years and was appointed to its Hauraki Gulf Forum. He was instrumental in helping to form relationships with the Department of Conservation and local tangata whenua over the management of Little Barrier Island. He has assisted with trapping predators to save the threatened birds in Pakiri and ensuring that department staff have access to Māori land to protect nesting birds. Mr Haddon has also contributed to the Māori community as chairperson of the Ngatiwai Trust Board.
