John Askew
John Askew, of Omapere, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Mr Askew has worked as both a volunteer and an employee with St John Ambulance for 25 years. He initiated the establishment of the Omapere First Response Unit and was a member of the Omapere Volunteer Fire Brigade, was a foundation trustee of the Hokianga Health Enterprise Trust and is a trustee of the South Hokianga Community Support Trust. He was involved in the establishment of the Opononi Swimming Club and the Hokianga Branch of the Youth Hostel Association. Mr Askew is a lay preacher for the Methodist Church and served as chairman of the South Hokianga Co-operating Parish.
