Lorna Dyall
Dr Lorna Dyall, of Auckland, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to Māori health. Dr Dyall worked at the Department of Health, where she was instrumental in instigating the development of Māori health services. She also worked with the Wellington Area Health Board, where she developed Māori and mental health services. She has been influential in classifying problem gambling as a mental health and addiction issue, and conducted research into the effectiveness of treatment services for problem gambling. She has been a member of several gambling related organisations, including the Health Sponsorship Council's Public Health Advisory Group. Dr Dyall has conducted research into the prevalence of strokes and other common chronic health problems in the community and has been a judge at the Te Matarau Māori Health Awards.
