Bill Dooley, Oamaru, MNZM
For services to the restoration of historic buildings. Mr Dooley has been associated with the construction and restoration of historic stone buildings in Oamaru, and throughout Australasia, for 60 years. In recent years his family firm of stonemasons has developed specialist machinery to shape Oamaru stone for the carving of parapets, intricate stone pillars and fireplaces. He first worked on buildings with his father, including the Waitaki Boys' High School Hall of Memories. Recently he has worked on a number of buildings in Oamaru, including Clarks Mill. Other buildings of note include the Dunedin Railway Station, Otago Boys' and Girls' High Schools and Knox College. Mr Dooley has mentored numerous tradesmen in stonemasonry.
