David James, Auckland, QSM
For services to education. Mr James has worked for 50 years in adult education, with the University of Auckland’s Centre for Continuing Education, as Director of the National Council of Adult Education, and as a member of the first management team of what is now Northland Polytechnic. He was an early advocate for adult literacy education and he developed innovative community education programmes throughout Northland, training adult literacy tutors and working as a facilitator of conflict resolution and mediation programmes. He was a national trainer for Relationship Services and a trainer on the Treaty of Waitangi for non-governmental organisations, local government and health providers.
