Peter McMillan
Peter McMillan, Christchurch, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. He worked as an electrician at the former Templeton Hospital, where he was also involved in voluntary work, including helping to fundraise and organise events and patient trips. He was also involved with the Special Olympics for many years. He formed the Templeton Tigers Special Olympics team, which he took to the Australian Special Olympics, and was instrumental in the organisation and fundraising for a team of athletes from the hospital to go to the international Special Olympics in the United States of America in 1984. He was the assistant team manager and baggage manager of the New Zealand Special Olympics Team at the Special Olympics in 1995 and was the chairperson of the Canterbury Special Olympics for more than 10 years.
