Mason Durie
Professor Sir Mason Durie, of Fielding, received the Insignia of a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori health, in particular public health services. Sir Mason, pictured after the ceremony with family and friends, serves on the Boards of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, the Foundation for Research Science and Technology, is the Secretary of the Māori Congress and a Commissioner for the Families Commission. He has contributed to the National Health Committee, the Mental Health Foundation and the Health Research Council. Professor Durie has been recognised by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and the Māori Medical Practitioners’ Association. In 2002 he was awarded a Doctor of Literature from Massey University and in 2008 received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Otago.
