Panchanatham Narayanan
Panchanatham Narayanan, of Upper Hutt, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the ethnic community. He was Chair of the Ethnic Council of Wellington and President of the New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils. He led the formation of the National Youth and Women’s Ethnic Councils and was the driving force behind new service initiatives for migrant and refugee populations. He worked to build constructive community relations when racial tensions became obvious in South Auckland in 2008. He set up meetings with local organisations, police, civic leaders and the community. Mr Narayanan has been a weekend Tamil school teacher and has held executive roles on the New Zealand Hindu Association.
