For services to historical research and photography. Mr Stewart is a writer, photographer and publisher who has been recording New Zealand’s urban transport and social history since the late 1940s, and has published 17 books, including When Trams were Trumps in New Zealand, Kelburn Cable Car: 100 years of Service, and New Zealand—Portrait of a Nation. As a photographer many of the images that he takes are included in his publications. He was the Illustrations Editor for The New Zealand Herald before establishing the publishing company Grantham House, which specialises in pictorial histories. Mr Stewart has served as a trustee of the New Zealand Centre for Photography, Ronald McDonald House, and the Wellington City Mission.
